The Best Caramel French Toast Recipe
This caramel french toast makes for a great Christmas morning breakfast (or really any time of the year!). I've made this recipe as early as two days before and popped it in the oven the morning of breakfast and it was delicious. Pro Tip: Make sure you use French bread instead of regular bread! Regular bread is not sturdy enough to hold up the caramel.
Ingredients
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup butter
10 slices French bread
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 pinch salt
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
1. Grease a 9" x 13" baking dish. Stir the brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter together in a saucepan over medium-high heat until bubbly. Pour into the prepared baking dish, then arrange the sliced French bread evenly over the syrup. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, flour and salt until smooth. Pour over the French bread. Cover, and refrigerate overnight.
2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Stir together the white sugar and ground cinnamon; sprinkle over the french toast.
3. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown on top, about 50 minutes.
